Why Relax?
When we relax, the flow of blood increases around our body giving us more energy. It also helps us to have a calmer and clearer mind which influences positive thinking, concentration, memory and decision making. Relaxation slows our heart rate, reduces our blood pressure and relieves tension. While we are studying and coping with all the problems in the world, it is important to slow down and think for ourselves. To keep us going, we need to keep our body and mind in a healthy state.
Relaxing the mind...
1. Take slow, deep breaths. Or try other breathing exercises for relaxation like guided meditation. (start from 10 minutes) There are various apps like Insight Timer, Calm and Slumber available on IOS devices and help you with meditation.
2. Soak in a warm bath and use relaxing scents to relieve tension. Certain scents and oils such as lavender and lemon help calm the mind.
3. Listen to soothing music. Music can relieve stress especially slow, quiet classical music. This type of music can have a beneficial effect on our physiological functions, slowing the pulse and heart rate, lowering blood pressure, and decreasing the levels of stress hormones.
4. Write about your feelings. Some people feel more relaxed after writing about their feelings in a journal.
5. Mandala Art. Colouring and using visual imagery also help balance your emotions and clear your mind to think more positively
